Summary of Army and MDA Projects

US Army Integrated Air & Missile Defense (IAMD) Project

Intelligent Systems Research provided exceptional engineering support to this project from the time of its early efforts as a special project of the Army’s Program Executive Office of Air, Space & Missile Defense in 2003. Since then, our company provided extensive functional and algorithmic analysis efforts that resulted in the earlier planned phases of the project (Increments 1 and 1.5). Our engineering team provided key Army participants of the Joint Architecture Working Group – a technical analysis team defining the approach for the Joint Track Manager software component architecture capability to create a SIAP using distributed track data fusion. Following those earlier efforts, our company’s engineering team took the lead in exploring the key challenges in the development of the Net-Centric architecture required for the IAMD and developed the Architecture / Capabilities Definition Report for the IAMD Project Office, providing a detailed architecture definition and addressing key feasibility concerns – presented at the IAMD ADR in May 2006. Our engineering team continued to provide exceptional engineering support to the IAMD project office efforts, including the efforts in support of the IAMD Battle Command System (IBCS) competition and development effort now underway supporting Northrop Grumman’s IBCS development  team.

Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Projects

For the United States Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the US Army

Track & CDI Fusion Phase I (MDA SBIR)

Under a SBIR Phase I contract in 2007, Intelligent Systems Research developed an approach for Distributed Track & Classification, Discrimination & Identification (CDI) Fusion, including development of a Proof of Concept Prototype which demonstrated the advantages of our technology, and raising the readiness to TRL 3. Our technology garnered attention and support both within MDA as well as with other potential programs, resulting in selection for advancing into Phase II.

Track & CDI Fusion Phase II (MDA SBIR)
Under a Phase II SBIR contract with MDA, Intelligent Systems Research developed our Distributed Track & CDI Fusion technology into C++ Software prototype in order to demonstrate the technology against operationally realistic air and missile defense scenarios. This mature technology has garnered the continued support of MDA and interest of the Army’s IAMD Project Office and yielded plans to demonstrate this technology against difficult target scenarios in 2011, which created eligibility for Phase II Transition.  This technology is at TRL 6 and has been tested recently with operationally realistic scenario data in government labs.

3-D Image Reconstruction Phase I (MDA SBIR)
Under the Phase I SBIR contract with MDA, Intelligent Systems Research developed our technology for 3-D Image Reconstruction Using Data from Multiple Distributed Sensors. This included development of a Proof of Concept Prototype which demonstrated the advantages of our technology which resulted in selection for advancing into Phase II.

3-D Image Reconstruction Phase II (MDA SBIR)
Intelligent Systems Research was awarded a MDA 2010 Phase II contract to develop our technology for 3-D Image Reconstruction Using Data from Multiple Distributed Sensors into a working C++ software prototype for testing and demonstration against operational scenarios.

Distributed Geodetic Registration Phase I (US Army SBIR)
Under the 2009 Phase I SBIR contract with the US Army, Intelligent Systems Research developed a technology that provides Geodetic Based Registration of Multiple Distributed Sensors, implementing software components at each location to provide correction of each of the sensor biases.  This included development of a Proof of Concept Prototype which demonstrated the advantages of our technology which resulted in selection for advancing into Phase II.

Distributed Geodetic Registration Phase II (US Army SBIR)
Intelligent Systems Research was selected by the Army to receive a 2010 Phase II contract to develop this technology that provides Geodetic Based Registration of Multiple Distributed Sensors, implementing software components at each location to provide correction of each of the sensor biases into a working C++ software prototype for testing and demonstration against operational scenarios.

Distributed Air & Missile Defense Resource Management Phase I (MDA SBIR)
Under the 2009 Phase I SBIR contract with MDA, Intelligent Systems Research developed a technology for Distributed Air & Missile Defense Resource Management to perform real-time assignment and scheduling optimization of sensor and weapon resources across a distributed architecture, implementing intelligent agents at elements across the network.  This included development of a Proof of Concept Prototype which demonstrated the advantages of our technology which resulted in selection for advancing into Phase II by the US Army.

Distributed Air & Missile Defense Resource Management Phase II (US Army SBiR)
Due to the interest by the Army IAMD Project office in this technology, Intelligent Systems Research was  selected for a Army 2010 Phase II contract to further develop  our technology for Distributed Air & Missile Defense Resource Management into a working C++ software prototype for testing and demonstration against operational scenarios.
